NanaWall Systems Launches NanaGlass SL25 at GreenBuild: Clear, Frameless Opening Glass Walls Create Green Living Rooms on Balconies

Mill Valley, CA (PRWEB) November 16, 2010

NanaWall Systems, the leader in large opening glass walls, announces the introduction of its newest product: NanaGlass SL25. NanaGlass SL25 has evolved from the European concept of balcony glazing and provides developers and builders advanced architectural technology for energy-efficiency and expanded living spaces.

Visit NanaWall Systems at GreenBuild 2010 i n Chicago at booth #1088 November 17-19.

The NanaGlass SL25 is a frameless opening glass wall system installed on the exterior of balconies, patios, and under second-story decks to create a pleasant living area sheltered from the elements. With no vertical stiles, the NanaGlass system provides uninterrupted views and natural light while forming an insulating air pocket over the building facade. The NanaGlass panels easily slide wide open and stack to one or both sides for natural ventilation on a beautiful day or quickly close to protect the balcony, deck or patio from wind, rain, pests, and birds. The NanaGlass individual sliding panels are top-supported in a single track and can ride a fixed balcony railing or extend all the way to the floor. The NanaGlass is available in custom sizes and configurations. Each individual panel can be a maximum of 2 feet 7 inches wide by 9 feet 10 inches tall in 3/8 inch or 1/2 inch glass.

NanaGlass technology takes standard balcony glazing to new levels. Far more then just a wind barrier, the modern European-style NanaGlass SL25 not only upgrades the appearance of existing building facades but significantly improves energy efficiency and reduces carbon emissions. Apartment and condo owners faced with mandatory building energy upgrades gain immediate benefits from the installation of NanaGlass.

NanaWall Systems is proud to offer a clean, efficient solution for creating year-round living space for entertaining and connecting with the outdoors. With the NanaGlass SL25, building owners can reduce long-term maintenance costs and provide more rentable square footage from underused space, said Ebrahim Nana, president of NanaWall Systems. In addition, our NanaGlass technical team provides custom-designed solutions for retrofits, new buildings and LEED projects.

The NanaGlass SL25 1/2 inch glass panels are engineered to withstand wind loads up to 80 stories in 90 mile-per-hour wind zones. A NanaGlass system installed on a high-rise balcony transforms unusable windy space into a pleasant year-round entertaining area and adds immediate collateral value to the unit.

First introduced in Europe as balcony glazing and later for decks and sunrooms, the NanaGlass SL25 is mature technology, stringently tested in controlled factory laboratories and field tested with more than half a million panels installed worldwide.

Pork Barrel BBQ Announces Opening of the First Pork Barrel BBQ Restaurant

Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 29, 2011

Pork Barrel BBQ is pleased to announce it has fired up its smoker and will open the first Pork Barrel BBQ Restaurant to guests tonight for dinner between 5:00pm and 10:00pm. Pork Barrel BBQ co-founders Heath Hall and Brett Thompson partnered with veteran restaurateurs Mango Mike Anderson and Bill Blackburn in 2009 with the goal of turning their dreams of creating a gathering place for the community centered around their national award winning barbecue into a reality.

The attention to detail and quality is ever present in the new restaurant. The owners literally have their hands in every detail from the hand-laid rock walls and columns to the one-of-a-kind beer tower constructed from sprinkler pipe by Blackburn himself. As for the barbecue, Hall and Thompson have climbed to the top of the professional competition barbecue circuit and racked up numerous awards for their que and sauces since the restaurant groundbreaking ceremony in October 2009. Pork Barrel BBQ has earned a reputation for their consistency in producing high quality barbecue and side dishes alongside some of the worlds top pitmasters in the competition barbecue community.

We are thrilled to be firing up the smoker and opening Pork Barrel BBQs doors to customers today, said Hall. Barbecue is more than just the food. In many ways it is the story of America with each region adding its flavor to the melting pot. Its about community and fellowship. We want Pork Barrel BBQ Restaurant to be a gathering place for this neighborhood and the entire Washington, DC community.

Pork Barrel BBQ takes great pride in serving quality barbecue that will please barbecue lovers from the Carolinas to Memphis and Texas to Kansas City. All meats are seasoned with Pork Barrel BBQs award winning All-American Spice Rub and slow smoked over oak and hickory.

The menu includes Pork Barrel BBQs take on traditional barbecue meats and side dishes. Customers can order ribs, brisket, pulled pork, chicken and sausage as a sandwich, platter or by the pound. Side dishes include BBQ baked beans, cole slaw, mac and cheese, smoked Ratatouille, collard greens, Texas caviar, potato salad and corn pudding.

Thompson and Hall are barbecue innovators who are, as Washington Post reporter Jim Shahin noted, on the brink of a new era. Since starting Pork Barrel BBQ in 2009, theyve become the most recognizable winning entrepreneurs from ABCs hit reality show Shark Tank, been featured on numerous television and radio shows, where they share their BBQ tips with the everyday backyard barbecuer, launched the worlds first barbecue-scented fragrance called Que cologne, started BBQ Backyard, a social media site and forum for the barbecue enthusiast, and are selling their award-winning sauces and spice rub in over 1,500 grocery stores across the nation. The Pork Barrel BBQ Competition Barbecue Team, led by pitmasters Hall and Thompson, has accumulated numerous notable awards including trophies for winning Grand Champion at the Safeway National Capital Barbecue Battle, becoming the Perdue National Chicken Champion, and having been named the nations best BBQ sauce and one of the 125 Best Foods for Men by Men’s Heath Magazine.

For more information about the Pork Barrel BBQ Restaurant, visit http://www.porkbarrelbbq.com and read about their latest updates and adventures on Facebook, Twitter (@porkbarrelbbq) and the companys blog.

About Pork Barrel BBQ

Pork Barrel BBQ was founded in December 2008 during the peak of the economic crisis to prove that a company not owned or operated by the federal government could succeed, and that if you had a good idea, it was still possible to grab a piece of the American Dream. Pork Barrel BBQ founders, Heath Hall and Brett Thompson, ran the company out of the basement of their houses, selling their award winning BBQ products one bottle at a time. In less than one year, their Pork Barrel BBQ Sauces and Spice Rub were carried in over 1,000 stores in 40 states. Throughout their journey, they have stayed true to their mission to unite the nation through the great tradition of BBQ, and bring bipartisan flavor to your next meal. The Pork Barrel BBQ Competition BBQ Team entered its first contest, The Safeway National Capital Barbecue Battle, in June 2009, and walked away with two trophies Second Place in the Nations Best BBQ Sauce Contest and Fourth Place for their pulled pork in the Memphis In May portion of the contest. Since then, the team has won multiple awards, including the 2011 Perdue National Chicken Championship, the Safeway National Capital Barbecue Battle in 2011, the Chinet Peoples Choice award for best BBQ sauce in 2010 and other notable Memphis in May and Kansas City Barbecue Society BBQ competition accolades as well as having their Pork Barrel BBQ Original BBQ Sauce named Best Sauce in America and one of The 125 Best Foods for Men by Mens Health Magazine in November 2010. Sarah Susanka Sets A New Standard For Housing With The Opening Of The Not So Big Showhouse On Nov. 19

Libertyville, IL (PRWEB) November 15, 2011

The wait is finally over! On Saturday, Nov. 19, Sarah Susanka, acclaimed architect and author of the best-selling “Not So Big House” series, along with SchoolStreet Homes will host the public grand opening of her Not So Big Showhouse at 138 School Street in Libertyville, Ill. The Not So Big Showhouse at SchoolStreet is Susankas three-dimensional thesis on what homebuyers are looking for in the new market reality.

The Showhouse and SchoolStreet Homes development are solitary bright spots in the nations dismal housing industry. With this Showhouse, Susanka raises the bar for the future of residential design. The space is perfectly tailored to human scale and features all the elements todays home buyers desire: smart design that lives large in less space without sacrificing beauty or comfort; a wide range of energy efficient features; multiple rooms and spaces that do double duty; and, a modifiable floor plan that lets homeowners age in place.

In todays market, the Not So Big principles offer a new vision for the home of the future not too big and not too small, but just right for this more budget-conscious era, said Susanka. This Showhouse brings to life all the elements presented in my books like never before. By pairing my build better, not bigger approach with SchoolStreets innovative urban infill model and the vibrant Libertyville community, were creating a lifestyle experience that is far greater than the sum of its parts.

Not So Big Design for Today and the Future

The opening of Susankas Showhouse comes at a critical moment for housing. For the second straight year, the average size of a single family home has decreased from 2,438 square feet in 2009 to 2,392 square feet in 2010 (1). Yet smaller houses alone do not meet homebuyers demands Americans are seeking houses specifically designed for their more informal lifestyles, filled with detail, character and energy efficient features.

The struggles in todays market demand a new approach and Sarah has really knocked it out of the park with this Showhouse design. She is a true visionary when it comes to understanding what home buyers are looking for, stated John McLinden, developer, SchoolStreet Homes. Were already receiving an incredible response and the Showhouse isnt even open for tours yet. We cant wait for the public to experience this amazing home.

Living Spaces Designed for Todays Lifestyles

The Showhouse epitomizes the Not So Big hallmarks of quality and character, comfort and beauty, energy efficiency and sustainability. Visitors will discover how unused formal rooms can be replaced by spaces that do double duty to create a home that feels spacious in less square footage.

Smart Design: In this homes innovative layout, the kitchen is located at the front of the house, connected to the front porch. In most houses, this is where the formal living room is placed. Since most formal living rooms are rarely if ever used, this keeps the porch out of sight and so also out of mind. According to Susanka, Most people spend the majority of their time at home in the kitchen and informal eating area. Connecting these key spaces to the front porch encourages the homeowners to use the porch more often, which in turn helps create the sense of community that is so desirable in a Front Porch Revival community like SchoolStreet.

Spaces That Do Double Duty: There are three areas in the Showhouse that illustrate how spaces can do double duty: the library alcove, the away room and the upstairs laundry room.

Library alcove converts to formal dining area. On the few occasions where a formal dining space is needed, the library alcove transforms simply by relocating the table from the informal eating area to this room. If necessary, the table can also extend into the living room to accommodate larger gatherings.

Away room accommodates four functions in one compact space. The away room is primarily designed as an in-home office and kids gaming room, but also converts easily into a guest bedroom. It features a wall unit that shifts from sofa to queen-sized bed in one smooth move, offering the unique ability to make room for guests without the need for stashing excess furniture. The room can also become a full-time main level bedroom should it be necessary for the homeowners to live on one level as they age.

Laundry room triples as hobby room and additional in-home office. Susanka conveniently located the laundry room upstairs to make it easily accessible from the upstairs bedrooms. The space offers ample counter and storage space for desk work, hobbies and crafts, creating a place where parents can work while kids play. Its designed to be an all-purpose space where its okay to make a mess.

Aging in Place: One of the primary objectives of the Showhouse is to allow homeowners to stay in the home even as their needs change. Its floor plan has been designed to adapt easily should mobility become an issue. If one-level living becomes a necessity, the away room offers the option to double as a main level bedroom. The mud room, which is located across the hall from the away room, features a full bath and can be modified to create additional closet space for more main level clothing storage. The house is also designed to accommodate a ramp from the alley to the back door that can be added if necessary. The relatively flat terrain of SchoolStreet, combined with its proximity to Libertyvilles main street makes it an ideal location for homeowners to stay put as they age.

Energy Efficiency: The Showhouse has been designed and certified to meet the more stringent standards of Energy Star 3.0, which the EPA has scheduled to go into effect by the middle of next year. To meet these advanced standards and provide lasting comfort and durability, the home employs a number of efficiency features rarely found in homes today. It is fully insulated with a spray foam air barrier system that not only seals walls, floors and ceiling cavities, but also the spaces around electrical outlets and light fixtures. The home has also undergone a state-of-the-art air duct sealing process which guarantees even air distribution throughout the entire home to attain maximum comfort and superior indoor air quality. It features a heat recovery ventilation system, as well as furnace and air conditioning units that exceed current efficiency standards, and is pre-wired for the addition of photovoltaic solar panels and other renewable energy generation.

Thoughtful Design Touches: Visitors will marvel at the simple, yet thoughtful elements present throughout the Showhouse that profoundly improve the homes comfort and character. In the bathroom, a cleverly concealed drawer provides access to extra toilet paper within reach of the toilet. Windows positioned at the top of the central stairwell let natural light pool down from above, creating a bright and airy feeling in the main living space. The windows can also be opened to provide a natural passive cooling system, drawing hot air out of the house like a chimney. Susanka also added small, glass block windows in the corners of the away room and upstairs laundry room, to provide the homeowners with a clear view of the front and rear of the house.

Visit the Showhouse on Nov. 19

The Showhouse Grand Opening event with tours and the opportunity to meet Susanka will be held at the Showhouse on Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Following the grand opening, the Showhouse will be open for public tours on weekends for six months.

Ive spent the past twelve years writing about Not So Big House design. Now its time for the live demo. For years, Ive wanted to give my fans the opportunity to experience all these design principles first hand, continued Susanka. By keeping the Showhouse open to the public for six months, people will be able to k
