Reed Construction Data, Hanley Wood Join Sasha Bruce Project to Benefit Homeless Youths

Norcross, GA (PRWEB) March 28, 2012
Reed Construction Data and Hanley Wood will join forces with Sasha Bruce Youthwork (SBY) and national sponsors on May 16, 2012, for projectDC, a planned site renovation project to benefit at-risk and homeless youths in the Washington, D.C., area.
projectDC will support the renovation and expansion of an abandoned building, donated to Sasha Bruce Youthwork for use as service-enriched transitional housing. The goal of the renovation is to convert a community eyesore into an energy-efficient transitional home for homeless young people seeking to develop skills for their future. Reed Construction Data and Hanley Wood are helping raise much needed funds and in-kind donations for the project and providing volunteers to assist Sasha Bruce students with the actual construction.
The projectDC partnership is a unique opportunity for the private sector and non-profit to unite in support of Sasha Bruces efforts, stated Steve Ritchie, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, Reed Construction Data. The project will engage young people from SBY programs, giving them hands-on experience during the construction process. When complete, the house will provide these young people a safe place to stay, study and learn while pursuing scholastic and career opportunities.
Sasha Bruce Youthwork is a private non-profit youth and family services agency introduced to Reed Construction Data by Keri-Lyn Coleman, founder of Collaborative Planning Group, LLC. SBYs YouthBuild Program has an outstanding record of classroom and worksite-based education and apprenticeships that result in marketable job skills and work credentials to keep young people involved and active in their communities.
Our workforce development program has extensive experience in training young adults in construction trades, stated Jim Beck, MNA, SBYs Director of Development. Of trainees entering our SBY YouthBuild workforce development program over the past eight years, none had completed high school, and all were unemployed. Despite these challenges, 100% of those completing the program received nationally-recognized construction industry certification.
As many as 150 volunteers from Reed Construction Data and Hanley Wood will work with Sasha Bruce staff and students on May 16, 2012, to help convert the Marshall Heights structure into a home-like environment, with bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, offices and community space. Architects Stovall Smith Neyman and Associates and General Contractor Superior Home Services are providing expertise for the project, and sponsoring building product manufacturers are donating materials, as well as services.
We appreciate the opportunity to work with a non-profit of Sasha Bruce Youthworks caliber and are honored to be a part of a volunteer effort that will bring meaningful improvement to the lives of those young people were helping through this project, stated Steve Ritchie.
Corporate sponsorships are still available. Join projectDC now to make a difference in the lives of at-risk young people, while gaining company and brand visibility.

San Bruno Remodeling Company Herrera Construction Announces Completion of Remodeling Project, a 1950s-era Home

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 13, 2012
When Fidence Herrera of Herrera Construction was first approached to update a home for his clients in San Bruno, the initial plan was simply to update the kitchen and do some minor bathroom remodeling. Once the project was underway, it became apparent that additional work would be needed to transform the existing residence into the type of home the clients would enjoy living in. So Herrera and his team undertook the task of completely overhauling a very dated home and turning it into a stunning, modern showplace.
Herrera began by removing everything in the home doors, casings, baseboards, carpeting, kitchen cabinets. As the home was in its original state, he first needed to upgrade the electrical system to bring it up to current code.
Some restructuring was involved, especially in the kitchen. Herrera reconfigured the space to give a more open feeling to the area and added a window to the adjacent dining area to provide much-needed natural light to the space. Herrera replaced the existing cabinetry with custom-built units, installed granite countertops and also installed new appliances.
The existing fireplace was refaced with slate; a mantle was added for accent and then finished off with a new gas fireplace insert.
Herrera then set to work on the homes two bathrooms. Both bathrooms were also original and needed to be completely gutted and updated. He added a new tub, a complete shower enclosure, vanities, granite countertops and tile surrounds, with new fixtures to complete the makeover.
The homes floors were also given much attention. In the living spaces, they replaced old worn vinyl and hardwood floors with beautiful new hard wood flooring and refinished the existing oak floors.
Finally, the interior project was completed by installing raised panel doors, casing and baseboards, along with crown molding throughout the house. Of course, both the interior and exterior of the home were completely repainted. At this point the only work left to do was building a new deck in the backyard for all to enjoy.
In the end, a residence built in the fifties received a major facelift, and both the clients and contractor felt the extra effort and time spent on the project were well worth it.

New Construction is Under Way at The Villas at Pleasant Valley
Longmont, CO (PRWEB) September 30, 2010
Kemmons Wilson Companies broke ground on the new Abbey and Canterbury models at The Villas at Pleasant Valley, an active adult community with a maintenance-free lifestyle. The new models add upgraded kitchen and living areas creating more options for a homebuyer who is looking to live in a community with an active senior lifestyle.
The Abbey is the two-bedroom plan in the Cathedral Series of homes built by Kemmons Wilson Companies. The Canterbury model is the three-bedroom plan, where the third bedroom is sometimes used as a den or study area. Both are in the same Cathedral Series of homes built by the company. Both plans feature high ceilings, large living spaces, and a sunroom with three walls of solid glass. The bedrooms provide suite-like full baths and walk-in closets.
While many other planned communities have been halted half way through the development process, leaving a an unfinished community for its early home buyers, and other developments head worse yet, into foreclosure, Kemmons Wilson Communities can’t seem to keep up with demand.
“The new building under construction at The Villas at Pleasant Valley is a Cathedral building with two Abbey and two Canterbury models. Its completion for touring is targeted for Thanksgiving. This project is underway because all standing inventory sold out early this summer, which capped a pickup in sales activity over the early part of the year, especially during the Spring,” said Ron Hickman, senior vice- president heading the Real Estate Ventures Group.
The new models show hardwood-flooring upgrades in the living areas and kitchen; the new kitchen has an upgraded cabinet with desk area for convenience and functionality. Both places offer upgraded patios, spacious interior storage, a large laundry room right off the kitchen, gas fireplace in the living room, attached two car garage and attic storage.
Kemmons Wilson Companies has five active senior communities nationwide that are maintenance free for residents which include The Villas at Pleasant Valley, The Villas at Great Plains Park, The Villages at Schilling Farms, The Oaks at Parkview, and the Oaks at Woodchase.

Thomas Construction Comes to the Rescue of a Roofing Disaster

Bridgeton, MO (Vocus) November 4, 2010
In 2009, Ashley Patterson hired an independent contractor to replace the roof on her Collinsville home, paying $ 5,000 upfront. A year later, the Collinsville Police Department issued Patterson two citations for ordinance violations related to the condition of her nearly brand new roof.
As a single mother of three children, ages 5, 4, and 3 months, Patterson didnt have the money to be picky about the appearance of her house, but never dreamed she would have to replace her roof again this soon. Not to mention, with what money? Doing the job correctly would actually cost twice what she paid before.
Sgt. Bill Berger of the Collinsville Police Department was concerned about Pattersons dilemma, but didnt know how to help. That is, until he came into contact with Doug Miles, Sales Manager at Thomas Construction located in Bridgeton, MO.
Thomas Construction has a history of providing free construction work to residents who are truly in need, and Ashley Patterson was no exception. According to Miles, Thomas Construction does a few of these jobs every so often. Miles continues, these jobs are a way to give back to the community. After driving to Collinsville, MO and looking at the property himself, Miles went to the President of Thomas Construction, Steve Townzen. Townzen agreed that his company would replace Pattersons roof at no cost.
And so, Thomas Construction immediately began building Patterson a new roof. Patterson was enthusiastic to find out about Thomas Constructions donation of time and money. She says, It really touches my heart, because they didnt have to do this. The roof they are building her would normally cost about $ 11,000, and is estimated to last about 30 years. Thomas Constructions suppliers donated the materials, and the company sent four men to handle the job, all of which feel fortunate they were a part of the experience.
