Global Basecamps Develops Eclectic Morocco Tour

Encinitas, CA (PRWEB) March 29, 2012
Encinitas-based specialty travel company Global Basecamps introduced a fully customizable eco-friendly Morocco tour on Friday. Global Basecamps strives to create itineraries that give travelers a glimpse into the daily lives of the local people and highlight the unique culture of each region. Global Basecamps Eclectic Morocco Itinerary is designed to acquaint travellers with Moroccos varied landscapes and truly warm culture. The custom tour will take you from the famed city of Casablanca, through Fez, Rabat, and Meknes to Marrakesh. From the northern coast through the Sahara Desert and out again.
Travel from day to day can be a mix of by train or car, but this itinerary forgoes the speed of trains for the opportunity to appreciate the landscape. Morocco is a country that should be enjoyed like a glass of wine, not a shot of whiskey. The itinerary begins in Casablanca, but the famous city only acts as a gateway into the rest of the country. Travellers will pass through the capital city of Rabat on their way to Meknes. This is one of Moroccos lesser-visited imperial cities and features one of the countrys most impressive gateways, Bab Mansour. Options in this city include a private guided tour of its highlights or a cooking workshop. Thirty minutes outside of town are the Roman ruins of Volubilis and sacred town of Moulay Idriss. These two sites are evidence to the ancient and varied history of Morocco, and a forecast of what is to come on the tour. This day will end with arrival in Fez for the night.
Following is a full day in Fez. This is Moroccos oldest imperial city, and the cultural capital (if not the actual one) of the country. The day is spent with a private guide, exploring the Fez Medina. Medinas (markets) dot the countryside of Morocco, and when it comes to its bigger cities, they are less markets and more beehives of commerce, activities, and distractions. The private guide will not go unappreciated, as it is exceedingly easy to lose ones way within the maze of the medina. Cafes, mosques, covered booths, mules and donkeys, children and the smell of spices all begin to blend together in this uniquely Moroccan place.
The following day schedules a travel south to Erfoud via Ifrane and Midelt. This is the beginning of the Sahara Desert leg of the trip. Erfoud is an oasis in the largeness and its hotels and riads offer welcome respite from the heat most of the year. This city is exactly what one imagines when they think of a Saharan desert town. The adobe walls, the rooftop balconies and gardens, the long sunsets, all combine into a picturesque and ideal desert haven.
Day four brings the opportunity of a lifetime. Global Basecamps regional partners employ tour guides who openly welcome travellers into their homes for a meal and conversation. The Ziz Valley is the areas largest date production region, and the tour includes a walk through date palms and farms. The day must continue, and travellers will enjoy it on a camels back as they arrive at their campsite for one of their most memorable nights ever. The night will be spent under a starry sky in a Bedouin-style luxury tent.
The following days continue the journey out of the Sahara Desert through Rissani, the Dades Valley, Skoura and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou. The Tiz n Tichka pass is the gateway out of the High Atlas Mountains down into Marrakesh.
Marrakesh itself is the tourism center of the country. If the High Atlas Mountains were the calm before the storm, Marrakesh is that storm. Activity does not begin to describe the movements, smells, sounds and varied souks of this city. Again a private guide is provided here to navigate the 9,000 alleyways, streets and side passages that make up this great city.
The advantages of travelling in small, Morocco ecotour groups number far beyond the health of our environment. Small groups give opportunities for smaller, locally owned boutique hotels to show off their hospitality to travellers. All of Global Basecamps itineraries strive to work exclusively with local partners who employ local workers and support local social programs. “We are so proud that our programs not only increase tourism to this beautiful country, but also positively impact the local culture of the region,” says Global Basecamps’ travel specialist Andres Zuleta. Every eco-tour organized this way also has the opportunity to help plant fruit and nut trees in the region either directly or indirectly through monetary donations, which boosts not only the health of the environment, but the economy of the smaller villages. The goal is always to have tourism positively impact the environment and culture of the region.
Global Basecamps is a specialty travel resource designed to simplify the process of researching and booking sustainable hotels, lodges and private tours worldwide. Allowing independent travelers to journey at their own pace and ensuring trip priorities are met while keeping maximum flexibility on the road, Global Basecamps truly makes exploration easy. Nassau County Pioneers Locality Medias Ultimate Government App: Will The Domino Take Effect?

Garden City, NY (PRWEB) March 29, 2012
The mobile revolution is rooted in speed and accessibility; the technology streamlines communication with an unprecedented efficiency and ease of use, democratizing accessibility at the touch of our fingertips.
When it cuts through yards of red tape and clears up the lines of communication between residents and their community leaders, mobile flexes its muscles with a power sure to resonate on a national, and ultimate global level.
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano was able to showcase mobile at its best by announcing the launch of Locality Medias Nassau Now, the Countys newest state-of-the-art mobile and web application to enhance and improve communication with constituents. The app reflects Locality Medias overarching mission statement: To provide local governments with the most advanced, easy-to-use technology tools to help continually improve the transparency, efficiency, and ultimately the health, safety, and welfare of the communities they serve. Indeed, Mangano has traversed bold, new horizons in a realm almost synonymous with arduous bureaucracy and mismanaged communication: government leaders, and the residents they represent.
The aptly titled Nassau Now places a premium on immediacy in a manner so tangible community residents have already realized striking benefits. In addition to being able to access a calendar of free concerts, holiday shows and firework displays, Nassau County residents have the added benefit of being able to receive up to the minute alert notifications relating to weather conditions and construction work zones based on their respective GPS location. App users are the first to learn about free programs and events happening throughout Nassau County, and a recent update even allows them to access latest press releases.
Perhaps most groundbreaking is the ability not only to receive information, but to also report now concerned citizens can take photos of concerns and report them directly to the department responsible. The onus of knowing which department within the correct municipality is no longer on the resident or the municipal employee. The Locality Media platform understands Nassau Countys responsibility matrix and automatically alerts the responsible departments for speedy resolution of issues. A broken streetlight, a cracked pavement, an abandoned vehicle. . .users can submit a complaint and make a formal request to the county clerk, Legislature and even the county executive in a matter of seconds. It has often been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, affirms County Executive Mangano, And with Nassau Now, residents can quickly and easily express their concerns to Nassau County directly by sending a photo and description through the app.
The constituent engagement solution, Nassau Now, is available for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android platforms, Nassau Nows clear, easily navigable interface is an online and real-time application, providing a simple way for residents to use a smartphone or tablet to contact their representatives directly. Resident reviews on iTunes – Just got a weather alert about the snow storm and I have reported several issues, all of them resolved the next day already indicate an appreciation for its broad-based functionality: if you are a resident of a community, the app provides immediate and direct benefits. Even amongst the less tech-savvy, the immediacy and convenience of the information it can provide necessitates dipping a toe in a world they may have previously avoided. Free music on Spotify is a terrific bonus; an app allowing one to communicate safety and community issues with leaders and residents takes on a new dimension on par with emergency numbers, security alarms, and fire sprinklers.
There are gadgets, and then there is safety. The app grows up, and mobile is given a whole new set of wings.
Mangano is credited for leading the way, and intuitive reasoning leaves little doubt that what has been so good for the residents of Nassau County would follow suit in communities across the nation. Nassau Now, who is next?

Record Setting Mild Winter Will Lead to Peskier Insects, Repel Them With Herbs from The Growers Exchange

Charles City, VA (PRWEB) March 29, 2012
As one of the mildest winters on record eases out and warm spring days arrive, many pesky insects like ticks, mosquitoes, ants and termites are waking up from hibernation earlier than usual, and theyre hungry.
Briscoe White, owner and herb expert at The Growers Exchange, explains that this unseasonably warm weather has put us about two months ahead of the natural hibernation cycles for many local insects. We wont just see pests earlier this year, he warns. We most likely will see a boom in their populations as well.
Industry experts suggest that mosquitoes may increase by a generation or two this year, since they are mating earlier.
With the earlier influx of harmful pests, non-chemical precautions are a must to prevent them from infiltrating gardens, yards and homes. Here are some suggestions to have a mosquito free summer.
Usually grown by cat lovers, catnip is proven to be ten times more effective at repelling mosquitoes and biting insects than the harsh commercial chemical DEET. According to the American Chemical Society, the active chemical in catnip, nepetalactone, that drives cats crazy also repels mosquitoes.
Plant regular catnip or lemon-scented catnip in full sun and keep it well pruned. Rub the leaves on clothing and skin as a protectant from biting insects.
Basil also keeps mosquitoes away, as well as repelling house flies, especially when planted near doorways. Whether in containers or mixed into flower beds, basil adds texture, beauty, fragrance, and most importantly a no fly zone to homes.
Both peppermint and spearmint are excellent deterrents to ants, flies and moths, but they can also keep lice and mice at bay as well. Planting either variety of mint around the foundation of a house makes a natural boundary that many pests won’t go near. Use it near windowsills or beneath sinks, to keep sneaky insects from coming in to visit.
Planting natural herbal defenses against pests eliminates the use of harmful toxins, improves the local ecology in gardens, and provides benefits of many plants that double as culinary, medicinal or aromatic herbs, says White.
Make sure to choose the safe, sustainable insect repellents this summer and think of the garden before reaching for the toxic spray!
The Growers Exchange is an online nursery specializing in an array of herbs, flowers and potted herb kits. With over 25 years of experience, this family farm has become the industry standard for herb growing and provides high quality, healthy plants and products shipped directly to your door. These plants have been featured on the Martha Stewart show, in movies and in many notable publications, and are grown naturally, without harsh chemicals.
As Earth Hour Approaches, the Go Green Initiative and Glogster EDU Partner for International Earth Day Contest

Pleasanton, CA (PRWEB) March 29, 2012
Glogster EDU announces their partnership today with the Go Green Initiative (GGI) to launch the first annual International Go Green Glogster Earth Day contest. Students will be asked to investigate the sustainability of the food, water or energy system in their community and express their findings through videos, podcasts, blogs, music and photos compiled in a Glog (see http://www.edu.glogster.com).
Even after decades of environmental activism in this country, we still struggle to reliably deliver clean and safe water, food and energy to our nations children, says Jill Buck, founder of the Go Green Initiative. Its time to take a good hard look at the sustainability and success of the energy, water and food systems that serve our communities. Who better to bring this issue into focus than the children who will inherit these systems?
Prizes include an organic garden to a winning school; a full-service, all organic BBQ for a winning class; four (4) five-hundred dollar and five (5) one-hundred dollar cash prizes to winning students; and a wide array of environmentally-themed items such as DVDs, t-shirts and stainless steel water bottles.
“This is our first contest on Glogster EDU, and we’re very excited to partner up with GGI, says Patrik Prepsl, Co-founder and Vice President of Product Development, Glogster EDU. Their mission of conservation and sustainability truly aligns with our online platform. We see more and more schools going paperless through the help of our creative Glog platform.”
The Go Green Glogster Earth Day contest runs until Earth Day, April 22, 2012. For more information on entering, visit http://edu.glogster.com/contest/Go-Green-Initiative-Earth-Day-Contest/.
